VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Three weeks into B.C.’s Vaccine Card, three tickets have so far been given out to those who haven’t complied with the mandate.
B.C.’s Minister of Public Safety, Mike Farnworth, is not giving specific details, such as whether businesses or individuals have been fined, but is clear inspectors are on top of those not following the rules.
“Bylaw does do some education and enforcement when there’s a complaint. They’re able to forward that complaint to the appropriate authorities where they’re collected and looked at by an interagency body with in my ministry,” Farnworth said.
The province’s proof of immunization mandate was introduced on Sept. 13, with those entering some non-essential businesses, including gyms, nightclubs, and pubs, required to show proof of one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. By Oct. 24, visitors to these locations must be fully vaccinated.

The card is part of a provincial health order, and anyone found to be violating the order could be ticketed $230 or $575, depending on the violation. Any event organizer or business owner found to be in violation of the new vaccine card could face a $2,300 fine.
The interagency team enforcing the mandate includes police, WorkSafeBC, and liquor and cannabis inspectors.
“They determine the appropriate enforcement mechanisms or measures that are required, and that enforcement is taking place and will continue to take place, particularly if you are continuing to thumb your nose,” Farnworth said.
The notice of fines come as dozens of businesses across the province boast on social media sites that they have no intention of upholding the requirement.
