Ontario is reporting 2,139 cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday.
The province reports over 2,000 cases for the second time and for the second day in a row. Ontario reported a record 2,275 cases on Tuesday although a change in data extraction resulted in higher than usual case counts in some regions.
The provincial death toll since the start of the pandemic has now topped 4,000 after the province reports 43 new deaths on Wednesday.
The rolling seven day average now sits at 1,962, up from 1,926 on Tuesday.
The province reports nearly 49,200 tests completed after reporting less than 39,600 a day ago.
There are 2,043 more resolved cases.
Of the 43 reported deaths, 22 come from a residents of long-term care home. Homes in the province are reporting 84 new cases from residents and and 31 cases from staff.
There is now a total of 146,535 confirmed cases in the province since the onset of the pandemic with 4,035 deaths. Of the confirmed cases 17,084 are active and 125,416 have been resolved.
Among active cases, 932 people are currently in the hospital. The province crossed the 900 patient threshold for the first time in the second wave on Tuesday. Hospitalizations are up 121 since one week ago.
Among the hospitalized, 256 are in the ICU and 157 are on ventilators. The number of ICU patients is up seven from a day ago.
Locally, there are 780 new cases in Toronto, 528 in Peel, 148 in York Region, 143 in Durham and 55 in Halton.
The totals for Toronto and Durham are both daily records. Peel, York and Halton all saw slight decreases from one day ago.
Overall there were 1,654 cases from the GTA. The regions share of provincial cases has been rising in recent days. The GTA was responsible for 77 per cent of the provincial cases on Monday compared to 70 per cent on Tuesday and 65 per cent on Monday.
Windsor-Essex County continues to be the biggest problem spot outside of the GTA, with the the region seeing 11 new cases after reporting 185 cases on Tuesday.
Winsdor-Essex and York Region entered into lockdown on Monday.
COVID-19 in schools
The province reported 223 new COVID-19 cases in schools on Wednesday.
Among the new cases in schools, 188 are related to students, while 34 are linked to staff.
Over 19 per cent of schools in the province currently have a reported case of the virus. Twenty schools outside of Windsor-Essex are currently closed as a result of COVID-19.
All schools in Windsor-Essex are currently closed for in-person learning.
