The FFAW has called a news conference for this morning to discuss the current situation facing crab harvesters in the province.
The fishery opened in some areas on the weekend, but harvesters have chosen to tie up instead of setting their pots in a continued dispute over prices and access to what they call their “fair share.”
The union is seeking a price-setting formula based on what it calls historical sharing arrangements and an increase in shares as the market grows.
The FFAW also wants harvesters to be able to recoup value with market changes.
Today’s news conference will take place at 11:00 at the union’s office on Hamilton Avenue in St. John’s.
