“This decision is one that will allow us to shift our resources to better focus on other brands in Canada and meet the needs of our consumers with continued innovation and value,” he added.

Kleenex, proclaiming itself to be ‘Canada’s favourite facial tissue brand’, thanked its customers for their loyalty and ensured that its other products like Cottonelle, Viva, U by Kotex, Poise, Depend, Huggies, Pull-Ups and Goodnite will still be available to purchase in the Canadian market.

“We appreciate you allowing us in your households and want you to know how difficult it was for us to end our sales in Canada,” Kleenex wrote in a statement on its website.

Earlier this year, Nestle announced its decision to pull pizza and frozen meals from the Canadian market drawing parallels to Kleenex’s move.

Nestle Canada president and CEO John Carmichael said this decision will allow the company to further invest in the categories it’s prioritizing such as confectionary, coffee, ice cream, premium water and pet food.

“This could be an opportunity for Canadian companies or companies based here,” he said in reference to filling the market gap.
