Public health officials are confirming that yesterday’s presumptive positive case of COVID-19 at the Voisey’s Bay Mine in Labrador has come back negative, meaning the man does not have COVID-19.
A man between 20 and 39 years of age from this province, first arrived at the site on Monday and passed all screening protocols.
He developed symptoms on Wednesday and was immediately put into self-isolation.
The man’s initial sample and additional sample were both tested at the provincial Public Health and Microbiology Lab overnight. Both samples came back negative.
Contact tracing was completed for the now false positive case. Those who were considered close contacts will be contacted by Public Health for further direction.
The total number of confirmed cases in Newfoundland and Labrador remains at 291.
The Health Department will be releasing its regular COVID-19 update at 2 p.m. today.
