Canada's main stock index moved higher in late morning trading as gold prices rose, while U.S. stocks started the week mixed.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 33.70 points at 16,157.25.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 61.17 points at 26,610.78. The S&P 500 index was up 8.17 points at 3,232.90, while the Nasdaq composite was up 113.47 points at 10,617.52.
The Canadian dollar traded for 73.83 cents US compared with an average of 73.84 cents on Friday.
The September crude contract was down 10 cents at US$40.65 per barrel and the August natural gas contract was down 9.1 cents at nearly US$1.63 per mmBTU.
The August gold contract was up US$9.30 at US$1,819.30 an ounce and the September copper contract was up 3.35 cents to nearly US$2.94 a pound.
