Canada’s second-largest airline, WestJet Airlines, has announced increased flights from Calgary to Ottawa and Los Angeles as part of its previously announced winter schedule. The airline is doubling down on the Calgary-Ottawa service, with seven weekly flights added during the peak travel period this winter.
Five weekly flights have been added to the Calgary-Los Angeles schedule. The major carrier of western Canada is hoping for a busier winter after a few years of pandemic-related disruptions.
Increased flights from Calgary
Calgary International Airport (YYC) serves as the headquarters and primary hub for WestJet. The airline is increasing flights in its already-published winter schedule from YYC to Ottawa’s Macdonald–Cartier International Airport (YOW) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The airline published its winter schedule in July, offering affordable leisure and sun travel opportunities to warmer destinations.
The announcement for increased frequencies comes as a result of the forecasted demand between two of the popular city pairs on the airline’s network. According to the Director of Network Planning and Alliances at WestJet, Jane McCurdy,
WestJet is unwavering in our commitment to ensure Calgary remains the most connected city in North America with under two million residents as we continue to provide guests with even more affordable and accessible air travel across our network this winter. With increased demand for these two popular routes from Calgary, we are able to provide enhanced capacity and more seats for our valued guests this winter.
The airline is doubling its Ottawa service to 14 weekly flights during the peak travel period beginning on October 30. The airline also adds five weekly flights to its Los Angeles roster, bridging the total to 21 weekly flights at the peak travel period. The new frequencies from Calgary to Ottawa and Los Angeles are listed below.

During the winter 2023-2024 season, WestJet will operate close to 900 weekly flights from its YYC hub. The airline states in its press release that the new frequencies will be effective from October 30, and the bookings on both routes will be available beginning September 5.
