Travellers arriving at Halifax airport will soon be tested - HalifaxToday.ca

COVID-19 testing is coming to Halifax Stanfield International Airport.

At a Friday briefing, Dr. Robert Strang said the program will launch by June 14.

The chief medical officer of health said his team has been working with airport officials for a number of months to get this up and running.

"Everybody seems to think that it's really easy to do testing at the airport and do it tomorrow. It's actually not, it's very complex in terms of making sure you don't impact the flow of people through the airport, the logistics around getting testing that gives you accurate information, so we've been working through all of those issues," he said.

"It's not like we haven't been doing testing of travellers coming into the province, we've just been testing them through other methods, mostly getting them to go to our [primary assessment centres]," he added. "We're just now adding on the ability to test people at the airport when they arrive."

The province says other border testing measures are also being considered, however Strang said implementing it at a land border would be more "logistically challenging."

Strang said more details will be coming next week.
