The GTA and much of southern Ontario is set to experience another wave of sticky, sweltering weather.
Environment Canada issued a heat warning that is in effect for Sunday and Monday, with temperatures expected to be in the low 30s on both days. The federal weather agency also warned that the “heat event may persist into Tuesday.”
The mercury is predicted to reach a maximum of 30 to 32 C on Sunday with a humidex of 38 to 40 C, while Monday is predicted to be 31 to 33 C, with a humidex of 39 to 41 C.
“Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index to approach the high risk category,” warns Environment Canada.
According to the weather agency risks are the highest for young children, pregnant women, older adults, those with chronic illnesses, and those working or exercising outdoors. Torontonians are urged to never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle, and take regularly scheduled breaks in a cool place.
