ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) — A resident at another care home in Abbotsford has tested positive for COVID-19, while a poultry plant with an existing outbreak has been ordered to close, according to the Fraser Health Authority.
The resident who tested positive lives at Worthington Pavilion long-term care in Abbotsford. The home is owned by Fraser Health.
A patient of the Worthington Pavilion rehabilitation unit in Abbotsford was diagnosed with COVID-19 early last month.
“During this time, Fraser Health will have a presence at the site to take any further actions required and support the facility. This includes dedicated people to address quality, answer questions from staff, residents and family, and provide active checks of symptoms with staff and residents,” says a release from Fraser Health about the care home.
Fraser Health announced outbreaks at two other long-term-care homes in Abbotsford on Monday. A resident at Valhaven Home was diagnosed with COVID-19, as was a staff member at MSA Manor. Both were isolating at home.

Fraser Health also declared Friday a COVID-19 outbreak is over at Guildford Seniors Village, a long-term-care facility in Surrey owned by Retirement Concepts.
Meanwhile, Fraser Health issued a closure order for Fraser Valley Specialty Poultry in Chilliwack on Thursday. A worker there tested positive for the virus on Monday.
“All staff has been tested for COVID-19,” says Fraser Health. “The closure order is in place until Fraser Valley Specialty Poultry can demonstrate that they meet the parameters of the order, which includes addressing deficiencies at the site.”
Superior Poultry Processors in Coquitlam, where 49 workers have tested positive for COVID-19, was ordered to close a week ago.
“Case and contact management is ongoing. The facility will remain closed until the conditions of the order are met,” says Fraser Health.
Superior Poultry Processors is owned by the same company at United Poultry in Vancouver, which was closed last week after dozens of employees there initially tested positive for the virus.
The latter has 42 cases.
Meanwhile, Sofina Foods, a poultry plant in Port Coquitlam, remains open at this time despite having a member test positive. Case and contact management is ongoing at that plant, as well, says Fraser Health.
All symptomatic employees have been tested.
“The site has been inspected by Fraser Health and we are working with the facility to update their COVID-19 mitigation strategies,” adds Fraser Health.
On Thursday, the province reported existing outbreaks at 21 long-term-care or assisted-living facilities, as well as three acute-care units.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said a majority of the total 36 outbreaks at such facilities are related to staff.
The four Lower Mainland poultry plants with outbreaks have more than 90 COVID-19 cases combined.
Overall, B.C. has recorded 2,112 cases of the virus and 111 deaths, with a recovery rate of 60 per cent.
