BC Ferries is once again experiencing a backlog of traffic and multi-sailing waits on its busiest routes due to a ferry being taken out of service for a mechanical issue.
Hopeful ferry travellers leaving Swartz Bay heading to Tsawwassen will have to wait until the 9 p.m. sailing as of 1 p.m. as the 11 a.m., 12, 1, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8 p.m. are all sold out.
This leaves two sailings for the day with room left to take additional vehicle passengers on the 9 and 11 p.m.
Those leaving Tsawwassen are faring better with that side currently ticketing for the 7 p.m. Meaning there are three sailings with room left.
This backlog of traffic for BC Ferries is the result of the Coastal Celebration being pulled from service due to ongoing mechanical issues. The vessel was supposed to sail four round-trips per day, meaning there are eight fewer sailings on the route until at least July 26.
People who had reservations on the cancelled Coastal Celebrations sailings were moved to other sailings, according to BC Ferries.
